Sport is important at Kelly College Prep School.
The school aims to provide students with the best possible environment that will enable them to reach their full potential, and appreciate the value of 'sport for life'.
Some students from Kelly Prep have gone onto National and International honours and we are proud to play a part in their success.
However just as important to us, is that every child will leave the Prep School with an understanding of why sport and a healthy lifestyle are so important and will have found a sport that they enjoy.
There are three distinct areas to sport at Kelly Prep.
Games
In games lessons pupils are taught about team sports. Every child in the school from Year 1 to Year 6 has the experience of representing Kelly Prep in fixtures against other schools.
Age appropriate skills are taught in up to three games lessons per week by highly qualified staff. Children love winning and it is encouraged, but the focus is always educational rather than result orientated.
A full fixture list, in all major sports, is balanced to ensure that winning and losing are experienced in equal measure and that pupils are challenged appropriately.
Match etiquette is a vital part of their sporting environment at Kelly Prep. Excellent manners and sportsmanship are valued and rewarded.
Physical Education
Pupils are taught PE in their form groups by specialist staff. The curriculum is broad and balanced with a key theme of skill development running through all actvities.
Children become more independent and self confident in managing themselves and their bodies in range of sports. Tasks are physically and mentally challenging to provide stimulating and enjoyable learning experiences for all pupils.
Facilities are used across the Kelly Foundation allowing swimming, climbing, tennis and gymnastics to feature on the curriculum.
Outdoor Education
The special location of Kelly Prep on the edge or Dartmoor, and our links to the 'on-campus' Adventre Centre provides an incredible programme of actvities for pupils at Kelly Prep.
Horse riding, kayaking , climbing, skiing, bushcraft skills, archery and sailing are all regular features on the timetable. In years 5 and 6 pupils maintain a log book which catalogues their achievements and describes their experiences.
Whatever the weather, every week will see Kelly Prep children embracing the outdoors, learning new skills and appreciating their environment.
