Our Aims and Objectives
The Adventure Centre prides itself on being one of the leading development training centres in the South West and our aim is to provide “excellence in outdoor adventure and education”. The Centre was set-up in 1993 and has been providing quality development training courses for young people from a variety of schools and colleges.
We believe here at the Centre that the residential is far more than just an activity week, which is reflected in our high return rate. We focus on using the outdoor and activities as a learning tool to enhance teamwork skills, communication, leadership and trust. Areas of which, we feel, are lacking within most young people today.
A thought that we share with the Schools Standard Minister who is currently drawing up plans to guarantee every child at school in England attends a residential within their secondary education. The aim would be to “fire childrens’ enthusiasm for school and helping then to become more confident and ambitious”.
Our role over the residential is to build the young peoples confidence while developing the necessary skills for todays environment.
The Centre
The Adventure Centre is a self-contained complex, separate from Kelly College. We are fully commercial and operate throughout the year attracting clients from all over the country. It deals with school and youth groups and for companies, corporate entertainment, team development and management training courses.
All our residential clients have sole occupancy and have our facilities and staff made available to them.
Safety
Safety standards are of the highest level. The Centre is licensed by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (L3368/R0554) and is thus checked by an inspector approved by the Health and Safety Committee. We are also a British Canoe Union Approved Centre and inspected annually to ensure our procedures, staffing and equipment meet the required standard. All of our staff have been vetted before employment which includes the Governments Criminal Records Bureau and relevant references are obtained. Kelly Enterprises Ltd, which we are part of, holds the Investors in People Award.
The Centre has an impeccable safety standard with a minimal record of incidents and accidents.
Courses
The Adventure Centre tailors it’s courses to meet you own aims and objectives. We are completely flexible and will endeavour to provide the activities, programme and timetable to suit you. Once a booking is made you will be able to speak personally with one of our consultants and set your goals. We will guide you through this process and gradually build up your unique programme. Programmes can be linked to National Curriculum levels key stages 2-4.
