 Nun's Cross

The Centre holds the lease to Nuns Cross Farm up on Dartmoor, that can provide additional accommodation. It lies about 4 kilometres from Princetown in a remote setting, Map Reference SX605 699. The house is all that remains of a once prosperous farm and was last inhabited in the 1950’s. The Royal Navy took it on as a base for survival training and carried initial restoration work, the owners are now the Duchy of Cornwall and they have leased it out to private organisations in recent years.

It is ideal for school groups, scout groups, Duke of Edinburgh groups, Ten Tors training groups, cadets, outdoor centres, corporate training teams all whom use the farm to generate a sense of team work away from distractions and trappings of the outside world.

At the Centre we operate according to three principles;

Self reliance, team work and leaving people and places better than we found them. With this in mind “NCF” provides an ideal environment in which to demonstrate and practise these principals.

The facilities are basic in line with a camping barn. There is however a fully kitted kitchen with gas cookers (4 rings). All the necessary pots, pans, plates, mugs, cooking utensils and cutlery, catering for a total group size of 36. There are two downstairs rooms both of which are fitted with wood burners (wood provided). So the whole farmhouse can be heated. One of the rooms is set up as a dining room with long tables and benches, a great meeting room and somewhere to relax out of the elements. The other sleeps 9 and is more set up for staff sleeping quarters.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms; two larger and one small; sleeping 27 on triple bunkbeds. Basic but ample to get a good nights sleep.

A truly unique experience and one not to be missed. The farmhouse has no running water but a nearby Leat to extract water. There is no electricity instead a few lanterns and the light from the fires for that cosy experience. There is a toilet cubical and elson toilet for groups to use.

There is vehicle access nearby down a rocky track, suitable for landrovers or minibuses.

There is something about waking up there in the morning, opening up the shutters and just gazing at the incredible views.

This facility can be booked independently from the Centre.

Please call us on 01822 813164 for a brochure. Please be aware it is a popular facility at weekend so do ring for a provisional date.
