The Middle School - Forms 4 and 5 (Years 10 and 11)
Pupils study the following core subjects to GCSE level:-
- English
- Mathematics
- A Modern Language [French, Spanish or German]
- Science
- The most able pupils study for Separate Sciences [3 GCSEs]
- The majority of pupils study for Dual Award Combined Science [2 GCSEs]
- Exceptionally pupils study for Single Award Combined Science [1 GCSE]
- Religious Studies (Short Course)
- ICT (for the ECDL qualification)
Three subjects are then chosen from the following option subjects to be taken as full GCSEs:
- A second Modern Language - [French, Spanish or German]
- Art
- Design & Technology
- Drama
- Geography
- History
- Music
- Physical Education
Pupils choose one of the following short course options (this cannot be the same subject as one of the full courses already chosen):
- English Literature (this will count as a full GCSE)
- French
- Geography
- Religious Studies (top up)
- Learning Support
- English as a Second Language
Pupils also have the opportunity to choose one of the following, non-examined, creative subjects:
- Art
- Design and Technology
- Drama
In addition, all students continue with the non-examinable Personal and Social Education programme.
Tuition in Latin can be arranged with a private tutor at an additional cost.
In order that each individual's curriculum is properly balanced, careful guidance is given when the choices are made and a booklet is produced which explains the options available which gives a short description of each course.
Parents of new pupils joining the Fourth Form/Year 10 are asked to contact the Director of Studies at an early stage to discuss options.
