Extra-Curricular Activities

It is an important element of the philosophyof the College that an extensive range of extra-curricular activities should be availiable to all pupils. As well as clubs and societies, our position on the edge of Dartmoor and close to the sea and beaches of North Cornwall and South Devon makes the us excellently placed for a wide range of adventure activities.

The Adventure Centre at Kelly College is accessible to all, with Lower School pupils undertaking Adventure Education courses, while more senior pupils have regular access to its high ropes course, orienteering, climbing, abseiling, canoeing and initiative exercise facilities.

Highly qualified staff, chosen not only for their professional skills, but also for their ability to communicate well, train pupils during activity time, under the auspices of the C.C.F., and at week-ends. Our Sub-Aqua Club is a member of the British Sub-Aqua Club, while other instructors hold the relevant B.C.U., R.Y.A., R.L.S.S., M.L.T.B. and First Aid qualifications. The College has a long tradition of success in the annual Ten Tors Expedition on Dartmoor, with both boys and girls teams taking part.

The clubs and societies are in the majority of cases run by the pupils, with advice and encouragement from a member of staff. Part of the value of these activities is the opportunity they give for their members to exercise management and leadership, while following their interests and enthusiasms. Members of the Lower School undertake activities on two afternoons each week, while members of the Middle and Upper Schools can do so if they wish. All our clubs and societies are designed to encourage boys and girls to develop leisure interests that will enrich their future.
